Main research activities of the laboratory are directed to the tick I. ricinus, important disease vector in Europe and tick transmitted pathogens. Long term goal of the laboratory is a development of a functional vaccine(s) against ticks and most relevant tick-borne pathogens involving Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato, Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus, Babesia microti, Babesia divergens and Anaplasma phagocytophilum. Laboratory has established a wide panel of original in-vivo models and in-vitro functional assays and offers comprehensive platform for the research on ticks and tick-borne pathogens.
Laboratory has designed a range of sensitive diagnostic methods for detection and quantification of tick-borne pathogens (bacteria, protozoa, viruses) in ticks and patients.
