Production of specific pathogen free (SPF) and infected ticks
Specific pathogen free (SPF) and infected ticks are used in studies on tick biology, molecular genetics, physiology, tick-borne diseases and tick control.
Our tick rearing facility can provide eggs, larvae, nymphs, adult females and males of the following tick species: Ixodes ricinus, Ixodes scapularis, Ixodes hexagonus, Dermacentor marginatus, Dermacentor reticulatus, Rhipicephalus appendiculatus, Rhipicephalus pulchellus, Hyalomma aegypticum and Ornithodoros moubata. Each batch of ticks is certified to be Borrelia spp., Babesia spp., Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Rickettsia spp. free.
We also offer specifically infected Ixodes ricinus ticks. We can produce Ixodes ricinus nymphs and adults infected with B. afzelii (1 strain), B. garinii (1 strain), B. burgdorferi sensu stricto (7 strains + 5 GFP labeled strains). All these strains were proved to be infectious for the tick and for vertebrate host. We can also provide Ixodes ricinus nymphs infected with Babesia microti.
We can also prepare DNA, RNA and cDNA from any tick stage and tissues, infected or uninfected.
